Tobacco-Free Kids Youth Training Program Wins National Award

Initiative created with support from CVS Health Foundation
September 26, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids received a Lenny Award on Sept. 19 at the CallidusCloud Connections conference (C3) in Las Vegas, Nevada, for its innovative youth training program Taking Down Tobacco. The award honors organizations that successfully launched a learning program for an external audience.

Taking Down Tobacco is a comprehensive youth advocacy training program created by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids in partnership with the CVS Health Foundation. The program, which has both online and in-person components, educates youth who are new to the fight against tobacco and provides advanced advocacy training for young leaders.

Geared toward middle and high school students, Taking Down Tobacco empowers youth across the United States to fight tobacco use in their schools, communities and states. Taking Down Tobacco is part of Be The First, CVS Health’s $50 million, five-year initiative to help deliver the nation’s first tobacco-free generation and help people lead tobacco-free lives.

“Thanks to the generous support of the CVS Health Foundation, Taking Down Tobacco is empowering young leaders who will help us win the fight against tobacco,” said Bill Lee, executive vice president of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. “Together, we’re making the next generation tobacco-free.”

Taking Down Tobacco is powered by Litmos by CallidusCloud, a learning management system with over 4 million users worldwide. The C3 conference brought together thousands of professionals to provide training on learning and sales performance technology. Lenny Awards were given to companies and organizations in six different categories. Taking Down Tobacco won in the Best Partner Training category.

Tobacco use remains the No. 1 cause of preventable death in the United States, killing over 480,000 Americans and costing $170 billion in health care bills each year. Without strong action now, 5.6 million kids alive today will eventually die prematurely from tobacco use. More information about the toll of tobacco can be found at tobaccofreekids.org.
